Town Information

Oban overlooking the bay to the shopsOban is the most popular holiday destination on Scotland's West Coast. Oban was once a fishing village but now services the Western Isles through the ferries that leave from the 'little bay'. This includes: Barra, Coll, Colonsay, Islay, Lismore, Mull, South Uist and Tiree.

The town itself is nested in the hills that wrap around the bay. Queen Victoria is repudiated to have called Oban, 'one of the finest spots I have seen'. McCaig's Tower, or McCaig's Folly stands out looking like a colosseum above the town. Dunollie Castle is now a ruin but was once an impressive 12 century fortress lie one mile to the north of the town.

Oban naturally offers a great choice of seafood restaurants amongst the wide variety of shops that are mostly situated on George Street and around Argyll Square.
